Being a creative person, whether it is for work or pure enjoyment, includes having the constant necessary task of thinking of what your next project will be. Anyone who is creative will know that sometimes this isn’t an easy or short-lived task.
When we don’t have any inspiration or any creative direction for a period of time, it can get very dejecting and tiring. It’s always much more fun when we have project after project lined up for the next couple of months.
And if it’s a professional avenue of creativity, not knowing where your next project is coming from can be even more stressful. If you can’t think of anything, you can’t create anything, right?
So, with all of this in mind, we have created a short list of tricks to help you find and decide on your next creative project because we know exactly how hard it is when the fountain of inspiration runs dry.
Be a fan
Sometimes when we are the people who create content, art, media, and so on, we neglect being an avid fan of other people and their work. It isn’t always an ego thing, sometimes it’s simply a matter of free time or lack of it.
Taking in other people’s content and art can really help us get inspired and find something that we want to try out next. Of course, this doesn’t mean stealing other people’s work or engaging in plagiarism, it simply means being inspired and motivated by your peers.
You might never have seen a type of content or art before and then seeing it gives you a whole new boost of inspiration for your own next project.
It’s important to be part of an artistic and creative community, regardless of what you do.
Get a change of scenery
Often we are stumped for ideas and motivation because we are stuck in routine and monotony. If you are finding that your ideas are running out, it could be that you are simply bored and fed up.
Our brains need a change of scenery and a change of pace to stay lively and productive. Try something different, go somewhere different to work, change your routine timings, change your view, rearrange your home office.
Whatever it is, just mix it up a little bit.
Do your market research
If you want your next project to be profitable or popular in some way, a great thing to do is some market research. Find out what’s hot right now and what isn’t. Do keyword research, search using Google trends, look at your own website’s analytics.
It’s always good to go where the people are.
Sometimes doing a little bit of market research is enough to spark your fires of inspiration too, and the good thing is it only takes about an hour to do it.
If you find your creativity coming to a stop again, simply repeat the process.
There are always ways out of being stuck and there is always a bright new creative project waiting for you on the other side.
