If you want to start a blog online, congratulations! You are about to start a rewarding and profitable journey that you can do entirely from the comfort of your own home. What’s not to love?
Blogging is something that has been around for over a decade now and continues to be popular both in terms of readers and consumers who want to read them and in terms of freelancers and writers who want to write them.
Blogs are great for companies and individuals alike and they can help people meet lots of different goals, whether they be personal or professional.
Long story short, the world of blogging is booming and it is definitely worthwhile joining the club.
So, how do you do it?
Here are my top tips and tricks.
Know your niche
As the world of blogging is so vast, you will need to streamline your services and content into one particular niche, and then get to know that niche really well.
If you want to be a fashion blogger, then read lots of other fashion blogs, do fashion keyword research, start-up a kick-ass fashion blog of your own, and then begin to canvas proposals to clients. You have to establish yourself as an expert in your field, even if you are just starting out. If you try and spread yourself too thin, everything will seem a little wishy-washy and your content will suffer.
The best way to do this is simply to do your research. Google goes a long way.
Practice as much as you can
As with any skill, you can’t expect to be an amazing blogger right from the beginning, even if you are a good writer. Everything takes practice and blogging is no exception.
The more you do it, the more you will get used to the style and inner workings of blogging and you will be able to do things quicker and more efficiently.
If you need to create a portfolio before you have any examples of commissioned work, you can use your favourite practice pieces to construct this and so your work has a doubled value. Win-win!
Learn to be efficient
If you are going to work and make money as a blogger, you need to learn how to work efficiently and write quickly. This doesn’t mean rushing and producing shoddy work, it simply means maximising the time that you do have so that you can keep up with other content creators.
One of the first things you can do is increase your typing speed. This comes from practice but you can also use online tools to help you out.
The next thing you can do is write in as productive of a way as possible. Use noise-cancelling headphones, turn off notifications, create a productive working station. Do whatever you can to make sure you are producing enough content per day to make a decent income.
It’s the delicate balance of writing quality and quantity that makes a successful blogger.
