Alice thanked Maggie and gave her a little wink before facing the crowd. The woman then started with a nice toast, and when she finished it, Maggie’s co-worker, Frank, handed Alice two envelopes. A curious murmur went through the crowd. “I want to invite my dear friend Kate to the stage,” Alice said.
