The scene
Panicking people were zigzagging across the central street, and Carl saw a woman sitting on the sidewalk crying in her hands. On top of that, there were multiple police cars present. Their siren lights were swirling around, coloring the houses surrounding them. Carl saw officers everywhere. They were busy talking to the distressed homeowners. “What the hell happened here?” Carl blurted out as he drove up to the scene in confusion.
