Its fur was a patchwork of colors, from a deep, intense black to a soft, glowing amber, its small eyes were a piercing blue, and there was an air of unusual intensity about it. It stepped out from the bushes, let out a single sharp bark as it looked at her, and then retreated as fast as it had appeared. Alice was immediately intrigued.
